Details - Please Read
There's a lot that goes into a wedding. We want to make sure it is a smooth and peaceful experience for your entire party.
Please read these random notes carefully as they will help you decide if this is the right place for your wedding.
What areas of the camp does the rental include?
The outdoor spaces like the beach, quad, field, and trails are open for use.
Volleyball court, gaga ball court, basketball court (not regulation), and docks are all open for use.
Some camper cabins are included and some may be rented. The bathroom / showerhouses are open.
The walk-in refrigerator and freezer are available, along with a 3 bay washing sink. Generally the kitchen is not available for use, but see below.
There are a half dozen staff cabins that are not included, and some of these will be occupied by camp staff during your wedding.
What camp equipment can we use?
The docks, most sports equipment like volleyballs, basketballs, socccer balls, pickleballs & racquets, badminton & rackets, etc.
We also have some more niche camp equipment like dodgeballs, battle rockets, and archery tag that can be used with some instructions from camp staff.
You may also use sit-on-top kayaks & lifejackets, canoes, a few sailboats (if your guests can convince us they know how to sail), and windsurfing boards.
Can we use the motor boats?
Yes, under certain conditions. You need a driver with a Maine Boat Driver License and some experience. The boat drivers must be sober.
We have a pontoon boat that you may use as well as a 2001 Malibu propeller boat.
We also have a Yamaha Jetboat that is not available for use because jetboats are hard to steer, and the other two should suffice.
We will start them off with at least a half tank of gas, but you will need to refill it if you run out and want to keep going.
If you have guests tubing non-stop for a day, you will see why we could not keep up with refills.
(you may borrow our gas cans to go to the station, but we can't make the fuel runs or purchase the fuel ourselves)
Can we use the camp kitchen?
Generally not. You may use the walk-in cooler and freezer, coffee machine, microwave, toasters, outdoor grill, and a three bay sink.
The stoves, ovens, dishwasher, utensils, pots & pans, flatware, silverware, and cups are not available for rent.
The dining hall might be used by request for a small service, but it is better not to, since it will be somewhat packed up for the winter.
Weddings must plan to use full service caterers for meals, or other options like grilling, ordering pizza, and food trucks.
The cottages where most of your guests will be staying each have a full kitchen, and they are close to each other.
If you'd like to have some friends cook a meal, the cottages would be the best place for that -
you can use 3 kitchens all serving the same seating area outside
What do you recommend we do for food for guests for the weekend?
The main reception meal should be catered by a full service company that does not need a kitchen on site.
The rehearsal dinner could be catered, or could be a cookout with our grills, food trucks, or something like pizza.
Saturday and Sunday breakfasts are good bonding times for guests, and one of the reasons to have the wedding at camp.
Simple is usually better and makes everyone happier. Bagels & cream cheese, cereal & milk, coffee & tea, croissants, snack bars,
donuts, fresh fruit, and such continental breakfast items are typical choices.
They are easy to transport and store, easy to set out and serve, and easy to cleanup.
During weddings, it is tempting to try to make everything fancy and amazing, but it really just makes the organizers frantic.
Everyone will be happy to have a basic meal with friends & family.
Saturday and Sunday lunches are also great bonding times for your party and guests. Here we once again recommend not going overboard.
You do not need more work during the weekend, so make an easy meal.
Sandwiches / picnic, grilling, pizza, takeout, and food trucks are all nice options that allow your guests to stay together.
There are several restaurants within 10 minutes, and many more within 15 minutes, so some of your guests will doubtless want to go out
to explore the area anyway.
The cottages all have kitchens and fridges, so many of your guests staying in those will be able to cook their own breakfasts & lunchs if they want.
If you do wish to host a meal with a little home cooking, the cottages are the place to go. There's ample outdoor space & picnic tables,
and you can use 3 - 4 cottage kitchens to prepare everything. They each have a full oven, propane grill, microwave, coffee machine & keurig,
dishes, pots & pans, cooking utensils, flatware & silverware.
When can I visit camp to see?
Camp is open for touring and viewing before and after the summer camp season which runs roughly from June 14 to August 25, depending on how the dates align.
You may also visit occasionally during the camp season by appointment.
We understand that caterers and event planners may need to see the facility as they prepare in the final few weeks before the wedding,
but we also cannot have too many visits interrupting the children's summer camp.
Try to consolidate your visits so everyone who needs to can see the place at once.
Camp has a parking lot that holds about 40 cars if well parked. The parking lot is next to the Colosseum, where you might have some of your events.
The main area of the camp, including the cabins, the beach, and the field, are all about 60 - 100 yards from the parking lot over rugged terrain.
There is a way to drive closer than the parking lot, but it is really for important deliveries (like one or two food deliveries) only.
Beware that many guests will want to get special permission to drive past the parking lot and be dropped off closer, and we will say no.
Also people will want to drive across the field to access the cabins and beach, but we will also say no to that.
There is a lot of walking at a camp wedding! please be sure your guests will generally be able to tolerate the walking and respect our rules
about not driving across the field or down past the parking lot.
We have one golf cart that can be used during the wedding to help with shuttling, but it is a two passenger cargo cart,
meaning a driver could only take one other passenger plus some stuff on each trip.
We recommend you rent a passenger golf cart that holds 4 - 6 people if you expect to have people who cannot walk these distances on hilly, root covered trails.
