Slovenski Camps

Race like a champion next season

The Middle School Cross Country Running Camp is a balanced week of cross country training, information sessions, and traditional camp life and activities. The camp stresses the character-building aspect of running. We help campers learn about having healthy bodies, tough minds, and lifelong friendships in addition to important achievements.

The camp will emphasize base mileage summer training for two periods in the morning and one period in the afternoon. During the rest of the day, campers will participate in a mix of traditional camp life including camp games and activities that serve as valuable cross training. Campers will mostly run on the soft surfaces of our forest trails. Camp is open to middle school runners of all abilities from beginning runners to runners who have multiple years of experience.

Short lectures throughout the week from current high school and/or college runners will include topics such as cross training, core strengthening, warming up for races, and race tactics.

Cross country campers are integrated into the games and activities of the traditional camp programs (Camp Hawthorne, Athena Camp, and Dodgeball Camp) to cross train in active games and activities such as dodgeball and kayaking or to relax with less active options such as guitar practice and drama games. Throughout the week campers will have the opportunity to develop skills and participate in activities such as sailing, guitar & ukulele, dodgeball games, and capture the flag.

Slovenski camps is a coed campground. Girls' cabins are separate from boys' cabins, but most activities, free time, and meals are coed.
